Romanze

This piece was written to fill the “slow piece” quota on my senior piano recital. I wanted to write a theme that has a striking harmonic progression and unique melodic contour, such that it's immediately recognizable every time it's played.

I was inspired by Louis Vierne, who does this with the principal in the fourth movement of his Organ Symphony No. 3. Similarly, the second movement of A Bu's Piano Sonata No. 1 “Pinus” heavily influenced my voice leading and the textures I used.
