Psychedelic Nightmare

“Psychedelic Nightmare” is a composition that navigates the constantly shifting realms of a dream, from a serene pastoral landscape to a harrowing nightmare. It explores abrupt and disorienting changes in mood, as well as bitonality bordering on atonality. Foreboding piano chords signaling an impending darkness begin the piece, but the atmosphere is quickly dispelled into a light and open texture. Throughout the piece, the abrupt shifts between these two moods continue as the dream unfolds, before finally culminating in an intense climax where the nightmare prevails. After gradually intensifying in dissonance, the piece concludes with the piano body being struck by the fallboard, symbolizing the abrupt awakening from the nightmare.
