Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope began from a few chords that now form the work’s opening, and eventually spun into a love letter to the music that has inspired and shaped my artistic identity. The key aspects of the kaleidoscope idea are present from the very beginning, evoking the shiny colors and disorienting fractals that emerge as one peers through the glass, and diverges with every turn of the object. As the piece evolves, it shifts away from a physical to a more metaphorical kaleidoscope, one that synthesizes the kinds of sounds that have impacted me and my voice, from traditional composers like Debussy and Rachmaninoff to newer voices like Mason Bates and Radiohead.
